Food fun

Logan has started eating three "meals" of food/baby food a day. For breakfast he eats either baby oatmeal, rice cereal, or a jar of granola & fruit baby food. For lunch he eats a jar of baby food at daycare. Then for dinner he eats a jar of baby food plus sometimes something mushy like avocado, rice, beans, mashed potatoes, steamed & puréed veggies, or a banana. He still only has his two middle bottom teeth so I have to be careful what I give him. He loves Gerber puffs, lil' crunchies, & yogurt melts for snack food. The other day Jacob, Logan, & I went to On The Border for lunch. It was the first time Logan ate restaurant food! He ate rice and beans from my meal & ate some of the avocado from our guacamole. It was fun! He has gotten better at feeding himself, but has no skill at all with the spoon! I let him practice eating with a spoon a few times, but absolutely no food makes it into his mouth from the spoon. It's pretty funny and a complete mess. Here are a few pics.
"Feeding himself" with a spoon

First restaurant food

Eating steamed (and puréed) veggies

First puff! He was unsure what to do with the first one...he left it hanging halfway out if his mouth like buck teeth! *He's figured it out now & pops them in his mouth right away!

Smiles

Logan is full of smiles! Here are a few lately.

9 Months Old

Age: Nine months
Weight:  20 lbs (55%)
Height: 27 3/4" (23%)
Head: 45 1/2cm (64%)
Eye Color: Blue with a greenish ring around the center.
Hair: His hair is long all over.  It is light brown with a hint of a reddish tone in the sun and feather soft. It is filing in with new baby hair starting to grow.
Clothes: He is wearing 9 months or 12 months most clothes. 9 month pajamas & 12 month clothes.
Diapers: He is in size 4 diapers.
Milestones: He is army crawling all over the place!  He has started waving bye-bye!  I love it!  He raises his hand up and opens and closes his fist.  It is pretty much the cutest thing!  On the day he turned 9 months he made a tongue clicking sound to his pops.  They were doing it back and forth. His two bottom teeth are coming in.  The first one started coming in weeks ago & then went back down and took a long time to finally poke through.  Then the second tooth came in right along beside it.  His top two front teeth are pushing against his gums making them swollen but it will be a while before they come in.
SleepingHe usually sleeps from 10 to 11 hours during the night without waking up. He has been getting sleepy by 7:30pm & is usually asleep in his crib by 8pm. His naps are tough right now. He usually only gets one good nap in the morning or afternoon and a second very short 20 to 30 minute nap. He is still fighting going down for his nap in his crib.  He will usually cry and fuss for a while before finally getting to sleep.
Eating: He is still breastfed. He eats about 4 oz per feeding (of pumped milk while I'm at work). He has one meal of baby food each evening. He eats in his highchair and sits at the table while we eat dinner. He loves eating and gets really excited when he is eating one of his favorite foods.  His favorites are still sweet potatoes, carrots, & squash. His least favorites are bananas and apples. I think he doesn't like the tartness of the fruits because he makes a terrible face and sticks out his tongue when I try and feed him fruit.
Activities: Logan continues to get more and more fun everyday. He loves to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while he plays with his toys. He sits on a rug or blanket and will play with toys, crawl around, and be content by himself or with Barrett for a while. He loves his cousin Barrett! He has started to love his jumparoo again. He can get anywhere in his car walker and goes from room to room all over the house. Usually he ends up against my legs. He will crawl completely across the house to get to me (scoot on his belly really). He will also crawl to get to Snoopy and has grabbed Snoopy's hair and tail a few times. Hopefully I can keep Snoopy from biting him! He LOVES to play with hair...my hair, Jacob's hair, Snoopy's hair, his own hair, and pretty much anyone's hair who holds him. He is still so ridiculously ticklish. He loves strolling around anywhere in his stroller. He smiles at everyone and has started to "flirt" by smiling and then acting shy by burying his head in my shoulder when people talk to him. All you have to do is look at him, talk to him, or sing to him and he smiles. He is starting daycare on Monday April 28th for the first time. I'm nervous but I'm sure that he will love the interaction with the other babies.

8 Months Old

Age: Eight months
Weight:  20lbs  3.2oz (20.2 lbs)
Height: ?
Head: ?
Eye Color: Blue with a greenish ring around the center.
Hair: His hair is long all over.  It is light brown with a hint of a reddish tone in the sun and feather soft.
Clothes: He is wearing 6-9 months or 6-12 in most clothes. 9 month clothes fit better but are a little long in the legs & 6 month clothes are getting short in the legs and sleeves.
Diapers: He is in size 3 diapers.
Milestones: He has figured out that it is much easier to roll than to crawl.  He will roll across the room and back but not crawl to get something that is just out of reach. He has started saying "mama mama mama" which totally melts my heart.  I know it's just babbling but I LOVE IT! He occasionally makes a raspberry sound. I'm told that is a speech milestone. He occasionally will "high-five"...which consists of me holding my hand in front of him and after asking over and over for a high-five he will eventually stick his hand on my hand.  It's a start though!
SleepingHe usually sleeps from 8 to 6 during the week without waking up. He takes two naps a day each for at least an hour.  His afternoon nap is sometimes 2 or 2 1/2 hours. He is still fighting going down for his nap in his crib.  He will usually cry and fuss for a while before finally getting to sleep. Hopefully someday he will realize what an AWESOME thing it would be to get to nap everyday ;-)
Eating: He is still breastfed. He eats about 4 oz per feeding (of pumped milk while I'm at work). He has one meal of baby food each evening. He eats in his highchair and sits at the table while we eat dinner. He loves eating and gets really excited when he is eating one of his favorite foods and attacks the spoon while I feed him. He has also started making a fussing sound if I take to long in between feeding him bites, but the second I pick up his spoon he opens his mouth ready for the bite. He is now eating stage 2 baby food. His favorites are sweet potatoes, carrots, & squash. His least favorites are apples and prunes...he only had prunes once and wasn't a fan.
Activities: Logan gets more and more fun everyday. He has started shaking his head back and forth with a big smile on his face when he is excited. He does this the most when he is getting his diaper changed & when he sees Barrett. He is still so ridiculously ticklish. Sometimes when he's in a ticklish mood I can't even touch his back, his side, or the top of his head without him laughing and burying his face into my chest or shoulder. His focus has really improved. I can sit him up on a blanket or in his room with a couple toys in front of him and he will play with them by himself for quite a while. He loves his sports car walker & can get around okay in it.  He still gets stuck or ends up against the window pulling on the blinds so I have to keep an eye on him, but it is handy when I need to cook or clean.  Recently he has started crying when I pass him to his babysitter. He will stick out his bottom lip and look so sad. But as soon as I am out of sight he is happy again. He might be a little bit of a mamma's boy.  He has really started to love to play in his bath. He will splash and rock back and forth in the water. He also wants to stick his hands under the running water & will occasionally lay back and relax while playing with his toy boats. He is almost always content while strolling around anywhere.  I can take him to the mall, store, or a restaurant and he is so good. He smiles at everyone & he is always sticking his tongue out when he smiles. Oh how I love this little guy!

First tooth!

It's official...Logan is getting his first tooth!  Kiley came over today and I pulled Logan's paci out of his mouth so he could smile at her. Usually he is fine without a paci & doesn't care if he has one or not, but today he immediately started crying for his paci. Kiley and I thought that it might be a sign of teething...plus his cheeks were pink and he had been a little fussy today. I checked and I could feel a tiny tooth popping through on the bottom left side! It took a while, since he likes to stick his tongue out, but I managed to get his tongue out of the way to see the tiny white spec of a tooth starting to pop through! He is 6 days short of 8 months old.

"That's where it hurts mom!"

Reading the Bible with Daddy

Logan's Pampa gave him his first children's Bible for Christmas. The other night, I heard Jacob reading the Bible to Logan in his room. I slipped in there to take a few pictures because it was so sweet. My heart melts during times like this and I feel so blessed.

7 Months Old

Age: Seven months
Weight: 19 lbs 12.8 oz (19.8 lbs)
Height: About 27" *measured at home while he was squirming :-)
Head: ?
Eye Color: Blue with a hazel to greenish ring around the center that is leaking into his eyes.  Mostly they are blue and beautiful.
Hair: His hair is long on the top and is growing out on the sides.  It is brown and feather soft.
Clothes: He is wearing 6-9 months in most clothes.
Diapers: He is in size 3 diapers.
Milestones: He now sits without support & will play with toys while sitting by himself. He is very sturdy and perfectly content to sit in the middle of the room with toys. He seems so grown up when he does this! He tries really hard to crawl but he mostly just scoots backwards and rolls from his tummy to his back to get across the room. He isn't a babbler...but he does make a squealing noise and a spitting "b" noise like he is straining to babble but not opening his mouth to let the sound out. He has started reaching up to me when he wants me to pick him up.  He still keeps his elbows bent  when he does this though. I have to keep things I don't want him to grab out of his reach...like my dinner plate...or he will yank them on to the floor.  I learned this the hard way!
Sleeping: He has finally started sleeping 10 or 11 hours most nights. The sleep regression that started at about 4 1/2 months seems to have finally ended!  YAY!! He usually takes two naps a day each for at least an hour.  His afternoon nap is sometimes 2 or 2 1/2 hours. I've found that the better he naps during the day, the better he sleeps at night.
Eating: He is still primarily on breast milk. He eats anywhere between 3 and 5 oz. Usually 3 1/2 or 4 oz. He has one meal of baby food each evening & usually gets a little rice cereal mixed into a bottle of breast milk at night before bed. He eats in his highchair and will sit at the table with Jacob and I while we eat dinner. He has tried almost all of the stage 1 baby foods except prunes.  His favorite is sweet potatoes by far. His least favorite is peas. He spit them out and cried the first time he ate them, but he ate them with only a few grimaces the second time he tried them.
Activities: Logan is such a sweet and happy little guy. I can take him anywhere and he is usually happy and doesn't make a peep. He isn't a car sleeper unless he's in the car during his nap time. He will sleep in his stroller in a store if I'm there during his nap time...but usually he just looks around quietly while I stroll him. He LOVES being sang to and read to. He loves really soft stuffed animals to hold on to. He will always smile to the ABC song and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. He is a hair yanker. If he can reach any hair...even Daddy's chest hair...he will latch on and yank.  He has pulled out fist fulls of my hair! He also likes to play with his tongue.  He twists it around and sticks it out & makes the cutest faces. He is still ridiculously ticklish. He loves playing "Where's Dada" with Jacob. He will hide and pop up and Logan will jump and give a huge smile.
